Chasm was written to explore and exploit the possibilities of the stereo field and the environment that this exploitation creates. This work for tape alone creates an environment for the listener that, at present, is unattainable in acoustic music. Every element of Chasm was created in a digital environment. At its genesis, this work was conceived using various synthesis techniques in C-Sound and manipulated with various computer programs available in the MPACT center at the Conservatory of Music-University of Missouri-Kansas City. Chasm is most successful when listened to extremely loud.
